CLEANING THE SODERHAMN COVERS

I finally decided to clean all the covers on our beloved Soderhamn sofa from IKEA. We'd clean the seat cushions and pillows regularly but the body covers were due for a wash. It was surprising easy, though a bit tedious. Mostly what you need is some patience and plenty of space is helpful. Follow the pictures.

Step 1: Flip Your Sofa

Pull your couch out and flip it over so you can see underneath. There you will find the nuts and bolts that keep your couch together. I suggest taking off the "armrests" first, if you have those installed, then the back last. It's pretty straight forward with a wrench.

Step 2: Pull Off the Pieces

You will see the bolts attached to the pieces like this when you pull it from the base. These bolts actually unscrew from the armrests and back as well. I suggest you do take them out completely, it will make it easier to reinsert them through the body later.

Step 3: Pull Off the Covers

They're secured to the pieces by velcro, so just gently pry them from the body and slip them off. This goes for the base as well.

Follow along in the gallery and after you get the covers off, machine wash as instructed.

Step 4: Time to Rebuild

Put the pieces upright to slide the covers on easily. If you're working alone, rest it against the sofa base. Make sure you have the covers oriented correctly!

Step 5: Reattaching the Screws

Screw through the wood then find the fabric opening

I noticed it's hard to line up the bolts through the fabric holes of the base cover. Unless you want to cut much clearer holes, I find it's easier to put the bolt through the wood of the base, then find the fabric hole next. Once all the bolts are through, you can start screwing them into the armrests and the backrests before screwing the nuts down.

Set up all the bolts first
Now you can guide into the arm/back rests easily
